I wish for more DoF, less harsh light on the flowers and less distracting BG (the orange blob)
Looking at the settings, I probably could have stopped down and or lowered the ISO. That may have made the BG worse though.

Jim, I like the picture! Monarchs are beautiful butterflys. Having just come in from the cold I'll be glad to see them return. They are hard to photograph in the sun.
Hey Jim, I like the image, and you have already recognized some of the short comings of harsh light, BG and more DOF, but thats the fun challenge of the macro world. If this was to easy it wouldn't be as fun.

I find I'm really enjoying looking at a lot of the macro images. Until now, my most used "macro" lens has been the 600mm ;)
I've got a 105 now. What other lenses (Nikon) and gear would you reccommend for some serious macro work?
Hey Jim, if you have some extra money lying around go for a longer macro lens like the Sigma 180 or the Nikon 200. It will give you more working distance and help on softining the BG. Some of the best Dfly and Bfly shots I've seen come from a 300 F/4 with extension tubes. I'm not a big small critter shooter but maybe some of the other photogs can add to this. Macro is tough shooting dealing with DOF, BG's and light, but when you nail that perfect images its really rewarding.
