While approaching what appeared to be a lone White-rumped Sandpiper, the bird suddenly started calling and alternately raising its wings. I soon noticed the presence of a second bird. This bird was apparently signaling to its mate.
Canon Eos, 1DMk2, 500mm f/4 IS, 2xTC, Shot vertica, small crop from three sides with a smidge of canvas added to the right. Not well seen in the small jpg but the full size tiff has good detail throughout the under wing including the length of the primaries.

I cannot help but agree with all that has been said above, a little more turn on the head would have been nice, but even without it is a beautiful capture.
