Here is a shot of a Red Tailed Hawk at the "Photo with a Falcon" booth taken at the Abbotsford Airshow 2007. Using a Canon 20D with 100-400mm L series zoom Shutter speed 1/500, F/11.

    Hi Steve,

Your posted image is quite a bit smaller than the allowed size, and at this size makes it a bit difficult to provide a critique on detail, sharpness, etc. There are two things that bother me a bit . . the shadow on the eye that might have been avoided at a different shooting and bird position, fill flash, etc. The background contrast is not bad but not ideal.

    Steve,

I like the pose and tight framing. Good eye contact and the shadow on the eye is not too deep as is a problem with big-browed birds. I would have tried to move around and get a less distracting BG. Bright areas in BG's draws the eye away from the subject.

    Hi Steve,

I think you are on the right track here. You've got a nice pose with good eye contact and nice seperation from the oof bg. The bright areas in the bg and the shadow across the eye are a bit distracting. Posting the image at 800 pixels on the longest side would really help us evaluate it and enjoy viewing it.

I think this is a very nice portrait. The composition and exposure are good. As the others have stated....the eye shadow and BG are somewhat distracting but this one is still a keeper. Posting as a larger image always helps to view and critique easier.
