This is a dominant male tiger from Kanha National Park, India. Probably the largest tiger I've seen in the wild.
Beauty of this picture/session was that this was my cousin's first wild tiger sighting...within an hour of us entering Kanha, now that takes some serious luck in such a huge national park ! Going there from 10,000 miles away proved to be worth it, our jetlag was gone right away. :)
This place has way too much variety to photograph, am going back soon....can't wait !
It was evening, we saw him cooling off in a creek bed, observed him for 30 mins, he finally got up, walked up to his kill (Gaur)...ate for 10-15 mins, then stared at a few tourists for a brief period...walked away into the woods.
Techs: EOS 1D mk2, 300 2.8 IS with 2x tele at 600mm, f/6.3, ISO 400, 1/800, beanbag from jeep.
Thx,
Kiran

I love that concentrated stare as well as the almost sepia tones of this image. This is a well done environmental portrait. I'm not sure but a slightly tighter crop might strengthen the comp. Have you considered turning this into a high contrast B&W?
lovely light and pose here Kiran, and what a special sighting. I would also travel 10,000 miles for this (if I could afford the ticket - our currency is quite weak against the dollar :))
Hi Kiran,
I hope to make it out there myself one day. I did a browser crop off the top.....about 1/2 the space above the tigers head to more of a pano....just seems to focus the stare of the tiger a bit more for me......and nice job keeping most of the grasses out of the face also.
Lovely cat and well executed habitat image considering the tall grass to contend with. Not sure I agree with as much of an additional crop as Roman suggested but if left as is I would eliminate the little white rock (?) above his head.
