Default Teenage Cardinal with An Attitude

    Attached Images Attached Images

We have had a lot of young birds at our feeders lately. This cardinal came late the other evening and not only fed, but threw the food around and generally made itself known! What an attitude!

1DMK2 with 500 F4 and 1.4 TC. Evaluative metering at EV - 2/3 with ISO 1000 and f 5.6 and 1/500; fill flash with BB at EV - 1 2/3. Slight crop and I darkened the branch.

    Thanks for looking. C&C welcome.

Not exactly a pretty specimen. Good detail and angle. It looks a little contrasty to me.

I love the pose and HA here. Your exposure is good as is your BG. However, I think the flash is a little too strong here. I think that the mottled plumage is interesting.

The raised crest and look says it all. :) I like the pose, sharpness and BG and would adjust the white point. It looks like a magenta cast on my monitor.

I guess if that is teenager cardinal plumage, then it's a stunner! Love the attitude, it reeks out of the screen, I can sense it!
Great pose and well managed though I'd be tempted to run NR in the BG. Thanks for sharing

Here too on my screen. When I'm not sure about the magenta or blue cast on my images , I use photoshop , CTRL-U , CTRL-6 ( magenta ) or CTRL-5 ( blue ) and slide the saturation cursor to +100 and I see immediately if there's a cast.
