The last morning in Goleta, we had nice overcast weather that lasted for 3 hours. I love the pebble to the right of the bird, and would never get rid of it.

I'm with you on the pebble. This is an outstanding "high key" type image.

I like the walking pose, eye contact and angle. The image has a slight reddish/magenta cast on my monitor. Out of curiosity, did you upgrade the firmware to 1.0.7?

Thanks for the comments Joe, and Axel

Axel, are you sure about the red cast? I reduced saturation in the red and magenta channels on everything except the pebble, and the brown feathers.

On my monitor I see a color cast. The new firmware supposedly eliminates the magenta cast problem on the 50D.

    Beautiful image!
Nicely done with low angle, perfect exposure, and excellent detail.

I love the pebble as well (adds balance) but would like to see more room between it and the edge of the frame, i.e. more room on the right.

Thanks Axel, Just making sure. I still don't see a cast, but this monitor hasn't been calibrated in a while. I am planning to download the new firmware soon.

I thought of the pebble at first, but it anchors the ground in place. I love the comp and soft light. :)

I agree with Axel....there is a definite magenta color cast which I can see on both my LCD and on the laptop.

I love high key images but this one to my eyes could use a tad bit more of a contrast boost on the subject? I know it's out of breeding plumage but my eyes would like a bit more separation between the bird and the backgound perhaps.

Sharpness is excellent on the head and breast, but it tails off on the legs and back...I would likely have stoopped down a bit more to overcome this and it appears as thought that wouldn't have affected the nice OOF background?

    Axel, thanks for the link.

Jim, The DOF is good enough for me as long as the head is sharp. However, it may not be apparent here, but in the TIFF the bird is in focus nearly all the way back to the tail.

I like the walking pose and am a big fan of high-key images. The pepple is too close to the border, but adds balance to the image, i see a slight halo around the beak though, but overall sharpness is spot-on.

Very nice low angle photo. I can see magenta color cast too.

Outstanding exposure Aidan, and I like pose. You have placed the plover nicely in the frame, and I dont mind the pebble. Great capture.
