    Default Great Blue Heron

It is what it is folks a full frame portrait with the 200 F/2.8L, I know a few of you may not like how much bird is in the frame but I was pretty happy yesterday morning when several of these at a local pond allowed me to approach to within 6 feet, F/11.0 @ 1/800 sec, ISO 200, manual exposure + 1/3. Any suggestions for improvement would be appreciated.

Wayne, very impressive getting that close and great exposure. Weren't you scared he might peck your nose off, I would.:D You did very good on composition and very sharp. BG looks nice and I like his scraggly look. I think the eye it self could use some selective sharpening though. Congrats

Scruffy looking heron, but I like the comp, pose, and HA. Apart from the eye, as Brian stated, this is sharp, and I like the overall detail in this. Great BG too.

The eye does indeed look a little odd? Nice and close though. Brave man! :D THanks for sharing.

The bird is a little worn looking but overall a nice head shot with good detail and exposure.

Nice full frame shot of a juvy GBH. They eye looks a bit soft but overall sharpness is very good.

Nicely done. I suppose the young birds are not yet too skittish. I like the colours and shape of the bird. I wonder if you may have been able to get a bit lower and if this would have made any difference to photo. Well done. Dave
