It was a dark and cloudy day at Little Estero Lagoon, making a challenging time of it.
This little guy was putting on quite a dancing display as he fished. Stats: 1/400 sec. at f/5.6, +1/3 exposure compensation, 400 ISO. Handheld Canon 100-400 IS lens.

I like his wake/trail and the spashing. I don't mind the head looking slightly away in this case as the bird is looking for a fish. Overall a pleasing image though a bit dark.

    When was it created?

    Dear Artie,

I made this image January 18th of this year. Thanks for the comments. Do you think converting it at +1/3or 2/3 more would do the trick?

On a second look, it does not look too dark... Go figure. You need to be careful with exposure with this species because of the light pink base of the bill.

Hi Kathy... I love the wing position and the trailing wake! The image looks a little soft on my screen though and I might have tried to put more room in front of the bird. Until I can morgage the house and pay for a 500 f4 this is my birding lens as well. I find I get better IQ with the lens stopped down some.
