    1/200s f/5.6 at 400.0mm iso250

    hand held, no flash, 50% of full frame

    A very difficult bird to approach, taken in the farm fields behind my wife's family home in the south Philippines.

    This is definitely a bird we don't see very many photographs of here... The pose is nice and I like the head turn. Since this is already a 50% crop, cropping any more is probably not a great idea. However I think it might help to reduce the size of the perch and remove some of the empty space, which I find somewhat dominating and distracting. Also, the OOF branch behind the bird draws my attention away. Finally, I'm curious what the short whitish lines are from? Was it raining when you made this image? Thanks for sharing!

    Handsome little (rare) bird, big perch, distracting background branches. But I always love seeing new species, and you did our best.

    Thanks for sharing this image of a rare bird. I'm wondering whether a vertical crop might look good. I know it's already cropped a lot but it might be worth a try.
