I need to get one for my 300f2.8 but the question is do they help at all as far a camo? Meaning with birds/fur and 4 do you think the aid in getting closer?

I'd like to believe it makes a little difference as it breaks the reflection of the white coat. The main reason I got a lens coat for my 500 is simply to protect it.

I got the "Realtree Advantage Max4 HD" since it matches the area and beaches, too.

That is the one I was thinking about matches up perfect with the one wetlands I actually have permission to get up close and personal to the pond areas.Most WL's in my area are restricted to observation decks:-(

I bought some 3mm neoprene (black/camo) and contact cement for neoprene from Seattle fabrics and made my own. Had enough to make sleeves for my tripod legs and Wimberley head as well. If you're good with your hands and have a spare evening, it's fairly easy.

I have LensCoats on all my glass from the 70-200 up. I just got a 600vr and the LensCoat was here waiting for it. Cost too much money not to put something on it to protect the lens from dings and scratches from the beginning. Not sure the camo thing is really a huge factor I use Nikon and it is black, white stuff may be another matter. I also have the Max4 HD on all the glass and even the legs of my tripod....hey why not, all close in price.

Have done some checking and I do think white makes a difference, at least here. Basing this on the oh so lovely local squirrels that don't mind me at all or me with the 200 f2.8, they are not at all impressed with the 300 or 400, same with the birds that comes to the feeders. Not a scientific test by any means:-)
