Captured on a winter afternoon at the Salton Sea. Didn't have much lens back then so this is a fairly large crop. My usual workflow - LR2 for conversion, CS4 for sharpening and cropping, etc...

    50D, EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS + 1.4x @ 280mm
Aperture priority, f/5.6@1/800, evaluative metering EC 0 ISO 200 WB 5200K
AI Servo autofocus, HH no flash

It held up just fine with the crop, love the BG and really like the wing position.

HI Kerry - like the wings and the pose - looks a little dark on my screen.
Made a couple of tweaks - does this look any better to you?

I have just recolour balanced my screen - hope its right - looks good my end - interested to hear if it looks OK your end.

    Hi Kerry

Real nice flight pose and light All you need is more focal length :) Always love seeing those curled primaries

Color wise there are some funky tones in the sky toward the lower right and more noticeable on the lighter version ... I think we need David to figure this one out !!!! :)

    Hi Kerry,
Agree with the techs. and advise given...I do like the flight capture with the fine details in the under wings...the head angle is good and so is the sharp eye...looking forward to your next one...

Lance, I think it's a bit overly bright now. Lost the late afternoon "mood" light. Balance looks pretty good though but did push the LRHC tones into a different place. Thanks for the repost!

Hi Kerry, The egret in Lance's repost looks a 'little' too light to me. If it were mine, I'd like to see what a slightly darker bird (Lance's) would look like with a slightly lighter original sky. It's a really nice capture of the bird (HA, wing position and sharp), and doesn't look any the worse for cropping. I like this image a lot.

Nice image Kerry, I like the repost by Lance, but agree it is a bit light (but headed in the right direction though). Nice capture.

Beautiful image, Kerry! Love the pose and BG. Agree with the other comments on the lightness.
