Hey Fabs, it's interesting that two people thought the B-fly could use a bit more contrast and I thought when I opened the image that the contrast was perfect. Do agree it would have been nice to have a little more focus on the flower.
Beautiful shot of a wonderful butterfly. Great light and wonderful colors. The only thing is, that the flower should be more in focus but this is only a minor thing.
Some times I use tele lens for macro too, specially with extension tubes. For contrast Im not sure, Im not familiar with this butterfly, but I would prefere photo without green leaf.
Nice angle. The proboscis in the flower is key to the action going on. On my monitor (Apple cinema display, calibrated), the whites on the body (especially the head) appear overexposed, losing detail. If confirmed, you might fiddle with that when you bring up the RAW image.
I'm teaching a macro workshop in a few weeks, may I borrow your 700mm lens to demo the technique? ;7)
Very nice image of butterfly and lovely BG. The fact that the flower is past its prime is a drawback in the overall image. However, we want perfection, while butterflies and bees seem content to continue visiting flowers past their prime.
