Only time I ever saw one, although according to Sibley's they are on the Florida coasts. This is from the San Diego trip, on La Jolla cove, where the Seals took over the beach.

    Model: NIKON D3
    Lens (mm): 650 (200-400/4 plus 1.7X)
    ISO: 800
    Aperture: 6.7
    Shutter: 1/500

Another one with stunningly soft light and colors, Fabs. I think if you want to get really incredibly picky you could say it would be better if his head didn't split between the pink and the blue areas in the BG but why be picky when you have something this lovely? Nice whites on the underbelly of the bird, too.

    Hi Fabs,

This is one plump Whimbrel! I love the subtle pastel colors, the soft lighting and the big stride you caught this one in. A slight crop from top would emphasize the pano comp and remove the most blotchy areas in the background. Love it as is though! I used to visit FL early each spring. I spotted a very few of these along the causeway out to Ft DeSoto over the years. Back then I never saw another photographer at DeSoto, then I told a famous bird photographer about the place! :)

    Good Shooting!

Very nice capture, love the comp and the trailing leg. Excellent light and HA. BG could be better but not really too distracting. Congrats.

Nice! Good looking Whimbrel, and the beach looks pretty darn clean :-) For the web I would apply another round of sharpening to the face...the tail seems to be the sharpest part of the image. Neat walking pose!

neat bird Fabs, love the walking pose and the smooth sand and BG, have you had much luck with the 200-400 + 1.7 combination? (this one looks like you have)

Ah, this is nice one, I love these birds and you've got nice BG too.
I love the clean noiseless look, D3 but of course.
BTW we get these here in NE too. They prefer grassy areas rather than the beach.

Classic Fabs image., superb light, details, colors, and the soft touch... would suggest 15% off the top.
