Here's one of my all-time favorite Costa Rica images. It's a Bare-Throated Tiger-Heron building a nest. We were fortunate to locate one at close to eye level in a little bit of sunshine.

Interesting looking heron, indeed. Looks like it has a twig in its beak. I wonder if you cropped out some of the nest and a bit on the right to off center the bird, if that would improve it.

Great eye level view and what a fabulous looking bird. Love the eyes and the white around the neck is great. Wish the bill tip were visible but that doesn't ruin the image. Well done Doug.

I like the head on capture; especially with good eye contact from both eyes. Love the stare. I also like that the image includes a behavioral aspect. Thanks for sharing.

Impressive eyes and lovely bird. I'd be temped to crop some off the left to offset the centered position.

Hi Doug, Great sharpness and I love the eyes. I'm terrible with composition so can't offer anything in that regard unless maybe a more loose composition was available with a shorter lens.

    Good Shooting!

With his pupils looking ahead, he is very aware of you. Great eye contact, and love the detail around the head and beak. The green BG makes the heron stand out nicely.
