    Default River Terns

The River Tern island at Bhadra, Karnataka, India had a chaotic feel With hundreds of adults flying over equal numbers juveniles calling and running around. The young ones would call louder every time they saw a adult fly by, whether they brought in food or just flew past.

This juvenile would jab it’s head from behind the rock and call, every time it saw an adult. I attempted to capture this amazing interaction.

Cropped for composition. Cloned out OOF 1/4th Tern from top right of the frame. Also a few weeds.

Handheld from a boat with Canon 400mmm f/5.6 USM lens and the EOS-400D. ISO 400. Evaluative metering +1/3: 1/4000 sec. at f/5.6.

    Comments, Criticism all welcome.

Hi Sree. I like the composition of the image and the accompanying story. Nice wing position on the adult, and I like the calling pose of the juvenile on the right. I might tone down the large rock a bit. The birds seem oversharpened on my monitor; there is a visible halo on top of the bird on the right. Overall a very nice image!

Nice image Sree,as already mentioned, its a pad over-sharpened and a little too saturated i feel. The bird in flight offsets the huge boulder in the center...i like the action here.

Hi Sree. You did a fine job of framig this and capturing the peak of the action. Over-Sh and over-saturated as well. Thanks for introducing me to a new species.

The repost looks much better. I Patch Tooled out one grass head just behind the bird and lightened the bird in flgiht a bit. (The bit of grass floating in space was distracting.)
