Hey Don, great habitat image. Their size difference is significant; I think it is molestation :o not foreplay! ;):)

I like the interaction between the two. Agree about the size different, for me it is what make this an amazing image. The motion blur in the left wing bother a bit, I might bump the ISO higher for faster shutter speed.

Great action you captured here. I wish the male was sharper on the head though, and I find the comp a little tight. When photographing birds don't be scared to bump your ISO up to at least 400 even when sunny...you never know when some unexpected action might start and you can use all the extra shutter speed! The females do indeed take thistle down to line their nests...one of the reasons they breed later in the summer as they wait for the thistle down to be ready for that.

Don, I agree with everything Daniel said above. I can see how you must have some beautiful images of just the female in a more loose composition.

    Good Shooting!

A higer ISO would've helped here to get a better SS. Excellent natural moment, nice "bed" and lovely sepcies, BG anbd colors, fill flash would've helped I think.

Having everything frozen with a higher shutter speed is nice but not always desired. I don't mind the blurred wings here and this is a really nice interaction shot, very nice Don.
