    Default Rufous Hummingbird

Spent a very nice evening at a friend's house last night. Nothing like a nice bottle of red and some hummingbird photography on a gorgeous evening. I should have stopped down a little to get more of the perch in focus. I'll be heading back this evening for more.

It doesn't get any better than that! Love the light, details, perch and composition. Wish for more DOF (as you already said) and could you have been more to the right. Congrats!

Nice one. And I love the conditions. Good wine and great shot. Nice perch...looking forward to see some more of this; hopefully the perch will be sharp all the way. Congratulations.

Very nice! Different looking perch for a hummer...adds to the composition. Great eye contact. Send the bird my way, please! I did have a Rufous banded in my Florida yard a few years ago, on Christmas Eve. One of the best Christmas presents I have ever had, getting to hold and release him.

Light angle could be a TAD better and I agree with you about the DOF, but species, pose, detail, perch, BG and colors are great. Can't wait to see more!
    Congratulations!

    Doug;

Nothing like fighting through the jungle for a week to get that perfect picture.:))

Sound like a fun evening. Very nice result, sharp, well exposed. The light angle works for me, as the head turn insures good lighting on the head, and the slight shadowing on the body gives him some depth.

    Looking forward to more.

The perch is special, more DOF as you noted would make it even better.

Very nice shot Doug, I am with you in that I would have liked the rest of the perch to be in focus also.

Im glad your camera can auto focus Doug - because after a few glasses of red wine, you will need it. LOL. The colours on the these HB's are amazing. Pin sharp, well exposed, and I like the angle of pose. Killer BG. Just a personal thing, but I would take a bit off the bottom.

I felt that the bird was a little close to the left side of the image - I would like a little bit more space on the left and the top. Otherwise FANTASTIC!

I was thinking you were already in the RED ZONE hence not stopping down to get the sharp perch. ;) How many times I gotta tell ya? alcohol and photography do not mix. :D

While the perch is soft below, the rest of the image is super! Love the smooth BG and the bird is incredibly sharp and with the perfect HA. Please tell me you took shots of the perch in full focus. You could combine then. :)
    Thanks for sharing.

Doug that is gorgeous. How did you get him to slow down put wine in the feeder? I wish the catch light was not so centered.

Hmmm, more what...red wine I presume.

I really like this image and the fact that part of the perch is slightly OOF even works better for me personally as I perceive that my viewing is forced towards the in focus area and the subject. Well done here.

Taking this while drinking wine... I should really give it a try...
This is a lovely image, I really don't mind the light angle.
I would crop some of the bottom, especially to avoid the OOF part of the perch.

Beautiful! a little to the right to get rid of those shadows would have been better, also the head turn more towards you could have added to this image.Looking forward to todays images...

Fantastic capture. The bird is sharp focus and perfect colours. The crisscross of the preach is very interesting.
