Default Noise Ninja and Camera Presets

I've been doing a lot of high ISO work lately and I've noticed that when using the camera profiles for my D3, I see zero change in noise before and after Noise Ninja, even at magnification up to 300%.

I get much better results using the default settings with the camera profiles removed and even better results when I individually profile each photo.

I'm curious if anyone else notices that NN doesn't really do much when the camera profile is applied?

    Jim,

When I use my Olympus E-3 or E-1 profiles, there most definitely is noise reduction that takes place. I use the NN plugin within CS2, open the "Profiles" menu, choose the "Load profile and filter settings" and then choose the appropriate profile. Possibly your profiles are faulty?

    Thanks Richard,

Did you do your own profiles or download the ones supplied by NN?

I got them from the NN web-site so I don't know. I think I'll take a shot at making my own profiles.

Hi Jim. I use NN for both of my Canon bodies and I made the profiles myself. I would recommend doing it that way. Be sure to slightly de-focus the image when you capture the pattern! Also check the settings that show up when the profile is loaded. They may be set to very low numbers for correction. If so, find settings that work for you and save them.

The E-1 profiles were from NN and the E-3 might have been third party even though NN has them as well.
