    Another molting cardinal from my backyard, yesterday. There were several in different stages of defeatheration. See Bald is Beautiful? in Id forum.

    D300 Nikon 500 f/4 AFS

    1/320, f/4, ISO 800

    multiple flashes, manual, 1/32 remoted triggered

    PP in LR2, converted in ACR, CS4, cropped top and right to remove stump brace for perch
    sharpened, noise reduction

    sorry Mack, this one breaks all the rules, but it is sharp with a nice background., and it is interesting.

    Hi Mack,

    I think it would improve the image if you placed the bird more to the left and run NR on the BG. A little head turn would have been good towards you as well. It looks sharp on my laptop screen with detail in the plumage. Thanks for posting.

    I would try to darken the whole image a bit more and also some more saturation would help IMO. DOF and sharpness looks great but the head angle and comp are to me, less than ideal, it would be nice to have had more room to where the bird is looking to and also, maybe by doing a noise with your mouth you could've gotten the bird to look at you. BG is nice but I would recomend to brighten the dark area at the top and I would try a different, smaller and more curved perch. :)

    The guys above have pretty much covered everything. One positive, from this angle, one sees much more detail. Keep them coming.

    All compositional suggestions are valid. Still a nice rear view. Thanks for sharing. :)
