I'd never seen this color of coleus before I went to the local botanical garden this weekend. It's so beautiful it totally popped out at me from the planter! I added even more pop with a curves adjustment in Photoshop to really make it glow.

    Canon 40D, EF 70-200mm f/4L
    f5.6 @ 1/200th, ISO 400
Manual mode, pattern metering, handheld, overcast skies
Processed in ACR & CS4; small crop, curves adjustment, vibrance tweaked.

That was the first word that came to my mind, Jules. POPS! It just POPS off the page. Color, detail, dof all are perfect here. I really dig the leaves on leaves on leaves composition too! Nicely done.

Great colors and interesting patterns, Jules. Good sharpness and I'm impressed with the DOF at f/5.6. Well done.

Hey Jules a very simple and effective comp, with great earthy colors.

Hi Julie, IMO one of your stronger images. The colors are great along with good lighting and sharpness throughout. The comp also works for me. Might take out that little pointed leaf end on the lower left....

Dave, that's so funny that you said that! I was going to try to clone it but it was a little too large so I darkened it hoping it wouldn't distract anyone. Now you went and exposed me for the lazy pp photographer I am!!! Back to OOTB for you! :D:):D

Very well seen. A strong image. I like the composition and the soft light.

I was going to say the same thing Steve said about the dof, I was surprised that it was 5.6. Such excellent colors and textures, and you composed this abstract beautifully. I'd like to see it with the two smaller foreground petals arranged more diagonally to one another.

I am amazed at the sharp detail obtained with f5.6. And, hand held! Just lovely. I like the composition, the colors, the dof.

I'm surprised you got so such DOF for f/5.6
