    Default Calling Razorbill

Photographed on Machias Island. This razorbill let another bird who was walking by know that he was not interested in sharing this pretty rock. :) They make pretty funny sounds, if you are not familiar with this species, you can listen to it here: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Razorbill/sounds

Lovely pose, BG, and HA. You did great with the not ideal light. Great exposure with lots of details in the blacks and whites. I might tone down the granite directly below the feet.

    Well Done!

Axel great sound they make!! It made me laugh:). The BG is what just makes this OTT for me, really lovely!! Your exposure I think is very well done. Maybe the toning down of the rock, but the subject just demands your eyes so well. Big Congrats!!

This bird and light looks like exposure nightmare, but you manage it extremly well.
Mind to tell us how you selected the original exposure and how much PP?
I like that you can see the eye and the inside the mouth.

    Thanks, Raul

Thanks, Raul! I used evaluative metering and frequently checked the histogram. In PP I used Viveza to balance shadows and highlights.

I've never heard a hoarse cat but I could imagine that it sounds pretty similar. :)

Great shot. I like the blue sky and the yellow in the birds mouth. The head turn is very cool here.
Very good exposure in a probably difficult situation.

All covered above but a double ditto on excellent work in the bright sun. That seems to be this week's theme....

    Hi Axel
Nice image and great job working with the black black and the whites in difficult lighting. I can even make out the eye clearly which is a bonus.

Exposure is spot on. A very tough subject given the light. BG is super as is the comp. Would like the eye a bit lighter.

Just love it Axel. Very good exposure job and what an amazing BG. The colour insede the bill is really beautifull and balances very well with the blue in the BG.

Super comp, and what a perfect pose. I like the white line markings on the head and bill, together with the yellows on the inside of the bill. Excellent exposure, and congrats on a fine image.

The lighted area inside the mouth pulls one right into the image. Black and white birds should be outlawed.

Again excellent handling of the details in white and black on the subject in harsh light! Too bad the harsh light took its toll on the lichen covered rock though. Love the pose, comp, BG and open beak. Nice shot!
