    This image was made last June at a small pond at a nursing home near our home. As I drove through the parking lot, I noticed the bird stalking the shoreline, fishing for minnows. I was able to get out of the car, crawl on my belly through goose poop into range without spooking the bird.

    Canon Digital Rebel XT
    Canon 300mm f/4L IS + 1.4 ex.

    hand held, no flash

    That's my problem getting close up heron shots ... I don't crawl through goose poop :D. I love the feather detail and composition, but that bit of green in the bottom left FG is a slight distraction.

    Agree with Kurt Also could add a clean bg would be more appealing When these birds concentrate on the prey you can move fairly close without spooking Just move slow !!!
