On my monitor, this does not even look like a photograph. It looks more like one with some special effect applied to it...to make it looks like a painting. If no special effect was applied, then I'd guess it is the way you used the light, together with the texture of the flowers itself, that created that look. I think the composition is fine.
No special efect applied. PP S/H, contrast, sharpening. Nothing unusual.
It was taken in the afternoon sun. I used flash because the stamens were casting shadows on the petals. Still the shadows can be seen. Background was deep shade and turns out black.
Manual mode, spot metering, manual focus.
