I took this a month or so ago while fishing just outside of Minneapolis. Thanks for looking.

    Derek:

Lovely mood here! The water color is great, nice quiet pose.

The whites, esp. on the breast, are a bit overexposed. This is a classic problem with this bird. If shot in raw, perhaps you can reconvert and pull out some more detail.

I might also consider a different crop, with more room to the left, since the bird is looking that way, and less to the right.

It also helps us a lot to post your camera, lens and exposure details. It helps with the critique.

Hope to see more of these beauties.

    Randy

I would've centered the bird vertically and I would crop from bottom to de-center the bird horizontally, but the mood, light, pose, BG, colors and detail here are stunning! I love this species!!! I would also tone down the whites a bit.
    Congratulations!

Thank you guys. It was shot in RAW so I will see if I can tone down the whites a bit. I will also play around with the crop and see what I can come up with. I forgot to put my settings in the orginal post, so here you go.

Love the color of the water; combined with the pose of the bird this image does have a good feel to it. I vote for Randy's suggestion but, I think both crop suggestion would work.

You have a great shot, Derek!
Exposure looks fine on my CRT.
Would trade some room on the right for the left though ...

I agree with comp suggestions, but a fine image indeed. I like the relaxed pose, and the deep green water really sets the subject off nicely. The white breast is a bit hot, but it often looks like that with the naked eye too! :-)

I too like how the silky water add to the comp. Perhaps a little selective sharping of the eye?
