Hi Jeff, I like this one just as you presented it. I don't know the herons well enough to identify it; what kind is it, and is that adult non-molting plumage?

    Thanks,

    Ron,

This is the standard Great Blue Heron, at least the Middle TN version. Thanks for the kind words. He landed about 25 feet from me and I hit the shutter and took several shots both vertical and horizontal. Good question regarding the plumage and adult vs juvenile status. I am reading info from the Smithsonian Birds-Handbook (Eastern Region) regarding your question, if anyone knows, jump in.

Hi Jeff - Good HA and nice sharp clearly visible eye. Expsoure looks pretty good and the BG compiments your bird nicely.
Might just add a touch of sharpening to the eye.
    Good show :)

    Lance,

Now that you mention it. I did selective sharpen the eye prior to sizing then smart sharpened the entire image after web sizing. I should have used the selective process afterwards as well - thanks.

Hi Jeff that looks like a Juvi GBH

You made the best possible image from your position ... all you needed was a better bird :) Huge difference in the full breeding adults !!!!

Great HA Jeff. Love the plumes on the crown. On my work monitor light appears just a little harsh, but everything looks harsh so I am probably overreacting. :) THanks for sharing.

I recently calibrated my MacBook using Spyder 3 Pro. The shot was taken in morning light and the WB was set to daylight.

Watch those work monitors (smile). Mine is a Dell and makes everything look dark, nothing like the LCD on the MacBook.

A tighter crop would have made the image a bit stronger.
