Default Is it safe to come down...

European Brown Bear Cub getting down from a tree which he climbed because a large Male came too close.

    Canon 50D, 100-400@400, 1/80, f5.6, iso800

I just do not like that front tree being in the way but there was no possibility of changing the angle :(

Hi Peter, I was safely tucked up in a hide in Finland which is why I could not alter my position, at one time we counted a total of 17 Bears all wandering about. The annoying thing for me was also that he was the perfect distance away as this is full frame, just that bl**dy tree :( But perhaps it means I have an excuse to go back there and try again :)

The position does not bother me too much. I like the angle and the way the cub is clinging to the tree. Would like to see more of the eyes, however.

I like that one a lot. The pose of the bear is great. You can actually see how careful he is. Great capture.

So many wonderful things here: the look on the bear's face, the basic COMP, the angled tree, and the darker tree on the right frame edge. Bummer about the bloody front tree (that was well nailed by Peter). Great EXP and SH too.

BTW, were all those wandering bears being baited?

Thanks Art. The Bears are in a very sparsely populated area of Finland (right on the Finish/Russian border) which is deemed a Nature Reserve, so no hunting, and I believe they have fed bears there for over 15 years. We saw 17 Bears at the same time and were told that 18 was the record. I had never seen Bears in the wild before so this was a 'warm up' experience for me because I am going to the Silver Salmon Creek Lodge, that you know so well, next year :)

Super comp Tell, and love the descending posture. This is sharp, and showing good detail throughout.
