I usually have trouble with BIF when I am in a very low position.
However, it's not so hard when they fly right at you. Just don't panic and it will be OK.

Very small crop off of the left side and bottom of frame.

Agree fully with above, what an action here, that's one in a billion pose, perfectly frontal.
    Congrats!

As I commented on Facebook, this image is rocking! I just love the heads-on perspective with the intense stare from the Oystercatcher. The wing position is perfect, and everything you want is in focus. Wow!

This is an outstanding image, nice pose and the head position is sick. Good detail with a nice BG. If I had to pick a minor nit it would be the slightly bright areas of the inner wings. The OC right wing is a tad brighter then his left wing. A real beauty James.

Perfect head on angle and great light against a good bg. You couldn't really have wished for more.

There is nothing I can fault here. Perfect flight angle towards you and the pose perfect. Great exposure and love the blue BG which complements the bird wonderfully! Well done James.

jip this really takes the cake as far is OC shots go - maybe even BIF's I've seen ;)
superb exposure and the fact that it's near full frame adds so much detail to this image.

Every technical aspect is spot on. Having just returned from the Tampa area in pursuit of these I am that much more impressed you were able to have one fly at you.

As a in flight image it's spectacular. I do wonder if compositionally it wouldn't be stronger if there wasn't a hint of beach in the fore ground if he was landing. If this was at takeoff then disregard the previous sentence.

Nothing much to add other than to give my congrats on a fine image, the wingspread and eye contact from a head-on angle really make this image powerful...

Wow, the detail, the sharpness, the wing and tail spread, the head on position, what an outstanding image this is.

    Hi James

I don't think you can beat a head on flight photo with wings and tail at full stretch. You did a wonderul job with this one. Great exposure, sharpness and detail. Congratulations on a superb flight photo.

    Cheers

The first thing which came out of my mouth when I saw this picture was 'Wow'. This is a very beautiful picture and the color of Oyestercatchers head and beak accentuate it. Congratulations!!

    James
An incoming just doesn't get any better than this one. I like how the water is smooth at the top and then shows more pattern at the bottom......very nicely adds depth. Well done.

    James:

An outstanding image. For personal taste, I might suggest pulling down the curve just a bit in the midrange. This darkens the water just a smidge, really makes the bird pop out even more. I also might reduce the contrast a point or two, as the legs are hot in the red channel. I checked this both in CS4 and NX2 to be certain.

    Lovely as is however.

Perfect symmetry, and very well timed to capture the full wing spread. This is pin sharp, showing great detail, and love the eye contact in this. Congrats.

Superb image James, just outstanding sharpness, fantastic light angle and, man, the timming is so good. Love the Bg and the simmetry of the bird. Eyes are to die for. Very, very good image :-)
