    Default Rainbow Lorikeet portrait

Captured on dusk yesterday afternoon. A totally wild bird just so you know, though they are not all that perturbed with our presence mostly unlike other parrot species that flee at the sight of a human.

I had to shoot up at it, because it was about 10 feet above me. BG is pure blue evening sky. I made some chirping sounds so it would tilt its head for me and at least appear as if it were level. Do you think it works?

    30D, 300/4 + 1.4x, HH, in-built flash, f/8, 1/160th, ISO400, zero EC 70% of FF.

For sharpening I only ran Smart Sharpen at 126/0.1 twice, second time I reduced opacity by half. Not sure if it appears too sharp?

Stunning colors and SH. Not too sharp. Amazing detail. Love the COMP and the HA. PMP = pretty much perfect. Way to go mate.

    ps: Even the flash rocked!

A stunning head shot. The detail is wonderful and very sharp to me.
The pink catchlight steals my attention.

Simply great! The level of detail, the use of flash, the colors, pose, species and sharnpess are all A+ IMO. I would only suggest to remove the flash catchlight.
    Congratulatons!

Love this with all the colors going on, and the detail in the feathers. You did great getting him to tilt his head at you, never would have known he was above you. Sharpness looks good to me two. Looks like you got a knack for head shots. Congrats.

Talk about amazing details!! Excellent colours too. I certainly does not look like it was 10 feet above you, good job getting it to tilt its head towards you.

Thank you for the kind comments. Once I posted, I realized I should have removed at least one catchlight. I was rushing to work this morning. :D

    Beautiful Image!
Have you considered "repairing" the red eye?

IMO a more natural catchlight would make this that much stronger.

Akos, what a perfect image for me to learn that you have joined the LTM Club. Peter told me this AM in a PM that he had decided to become an LTM. Congratulations to both of you. :D

I have to agree with the comments regarding the catchlights; however, the incredible sharpness of every other detail makes this a fantastic image - full stop!

Humor us and after you PP the eye, share your even more powerful image!

    Mate, well done.
    Cheers, Jay

Thanks Maestro. For everything but especially for giving me the bird bug with the original ABP. You know it was your fault! :) BTW, what happened to Oshkosh? ;)

I have attached a slightly more reworked version. applied a little NR to the blues, removed a speck of crap below the bill and tidied up the eye.

Great job with the bill crap removal. Oshkosh lives, I just wanted to practice my cut and pasting skills :)

Amazing portrait Akos. The colours are too good to be true, like oversaturated but I am not complaining because I have seen this species (in captivity) and the colors in your portrait are really natural. Stunning creature and stunning details in this fantastic portrait!

Thanks Krijn, Kiran, Al, Juan, James and Artie.

Al, these guys sure have a nasty bite. Having handled many injured ones through our rehab, they are very painful and rip into your flesh like a pair of scissors. Maybe I am a big sook. :)
