I am not sure sure how you can call a warbler common. I watched this guy bobbing up and down on blades of grass for a good long time waiting for him to land somewheree that would support him. Taken with the 40 D, 500 f4 +1.4, AV at 6.3, 1/200, iso 800. I tried to selectively sharpen the eye, just for Gus, cause his always look so good. Thanks

Nice shot, nice high ISO to support the slow shutter, I assume mixed or low light.

Lots of space at the top and the leaf to the right of his beak might draw ones eye off your baby and follow the foliage, I could be wrong. Let's see what others say. Lot's of color and I love the green background on a yellow subject, more shutter would be a plus. Basically you were 700MM X 1.6 40D crop factor over @200 shutter - given the negative math, you did well.

Did well for this one Carole !!!!

Perch wise I like it The bird is well balanced and looks good About the only part that catches my eye is the one oof leaf up top !!!

Coming up with good perches is a good way to go after little guys, save lots of focal length and images look good. !!! Some of the people specializing in perches spend days making them up ... its an art unto itself !!!

Bird is nice and sharp with a great looking bg !!!

Hi Carole - wel done with a slow shutter speed - like this a lot. Agree with Jeff might crop this a little tighter.
Eye is clear and sharp - and the BG compliments the bird very well.
    Cool.

Hi Carole, IMHO, you did an excellent job at that magnification (22.4X?) and shutter speed. Don't tell me it was handheld, please... The warbler is sooo sharp. It's a wonderful shot with a great background. I find the leaf pointing at the bird a little distracting, but that's a very minor point to me. Really nice image!

I agree as a group, not common at all. And becoming less so. ( I have worked on warblers in the PNW. I am quite concerned about population decline in both breeding and over wintering habitats for most species of wood warblers.) This is a very lovely photograph, and I like the fact that the foliage is shown as well.

    Hi Carole:

I quite like the pic, the warbler's look, the colors and the detail that he has in the beak. I suggest crop about 10% on the top because I think that the bird would look bigger in the frame. Nice shot.

    Bye,
