Since this is a pretty slow time for birds around here, I decided to post a coot image from a while back. And I think I got down low enough (Alfred, Lance and Gus) on this one, too (?). This guy had just come out of the water, unfortunately making the sand stick to his feet. Some minor adjustments made.

Wendell, was this very early morning? Great detail in the blacks. and what huge feet! lol
those feet keep pulling my eye. is there something you can do to make the face/head stand out more?

    i really like this image.

Cheryl, thanks, the picture was taken this January 15 at 8:15 AM. I love those feet, too. In fact, I have a few good photographs of their feet alone. I'm not the greatest at PP, so perhaps someone else can explain how to "brighten" the face/head (if it can be done with this image).

    Hi Wendell,
I completely agree with Peter's assessment, and think his repost takes care of the sharpness in the head area. The only other thing I would do is clone out the stick at the lower left, a very minor point. Very nicely done in my opinion.

Peter, 'preciate your work on the re-post . . . it improves the presentation.

Hi Wendell - love the lower shooting angle - Peter's repost has addressed my main points with this image.
Exposure looks pretty good - good details in the blacks and whites are in check (a tad up there in places - would tone them down just a tad) - the soft light has been your friend.
BG sticks dont bother me too much.

    Good show :)

    Wendell,

Great Coot, love those feet! Nice angle and BG, Peter did cover everything pretty well. Sticks are fine for me. The only thing I would mention is the bit of grayish color running down the right side, small thing just would have been cool if the BG color had went edge to edge.

    Really, really fine image!!!
