Very good portrait, I like the exposure control, sharpness and BG and might lighten the eye a bit. It looks as if he broke the tip of the upper mandible. Do they regrow? Maybe that is a question for John Chardine.

    Doug:

Axel hit the high points. I waned to add that the color in the mandibles is very nice, really adds some punch to the composition.

The broken tip was the first thing I noticed in the image. I wonder how he broke it. Good control on the whites Doug, and I agree on lightening the eye.

I agree with the above comments. Good sharpness, and I like the small water drops on the wing. Interesting beak "wound", not sure that I like that - but it is good as a documentation of what can and does happen.

Excellent portrait, Doug. I love the colors and sharpness. The catchlight makes it for me.

Beautiful portrait, you can see the eye even in the black head. Too bad about the bill's tip, I hope it regrows.

Very well exposed, nicely made portrait.
On my monitor there's a light halo around the head.
