Not a Skimmer but another from Nickerson. A common tern, which we don't get much here in CT. 40D, 500 f4, AV at 5.6, ISO 200, 1/1600. If there is another bird with the elegant lines of a tern I have not yet seen it.

Hi Carole - Like the low shooting angle good HA and eye contact.

Some of the whites on the head area are a tad hot, Had a quick look in P.S dont know that theres a lot left there to recover - exposure is one thing you should really strive to get as close as possible in camera.
Your bird could also use a tad more sharpening, you could also try a lighten the eye just a little - the additional sharpening will help the natural catchlight pop that bit. Your light angle is also a little off with the front of your bird in shadow.

I subscribe to AL's mantra of - if something is work including - it is wort including all of it. The plant on the LHS is a little distracting as parts of it are cut off - IMHO doesnt add to the composition. (The one in front of the bird is fine)

    Keep them coming.

Nice image, Carole. I don't mind the OOF plant to the left, since the beak is so bright and sharp, my attention is drawn there. It is tough, isn't it, to get a prominently displayed eye on a tern (they are usually "hidden" in their black caps). Yes, the tern is truly as elegant bird, one species even has that name . . .

    Hi Carole,
I like the capture...agree with Mr. Peters' fine assessment...the first thing that pops out is the hot spots on your bird, just need to tone them down a tad...looking forward to your next one...

I really like this, Carole, and completely agree about the elegance of terns. Love the shades on the tern. Do agree with Lance that main plant on left is a bit distracting. Also, perhaps a bit of CCW rotation?

I like it Carole You are right about this being an elegant bird !!!

Made a good exposure, visible eye and low angle Would like some separation from the plant, as presented is not complementing. Lance nailed the critique !!! Love this birds !!!
