Taken yesterday at Loxahatchee, you will notice the that there are still 'baby' feathers behind the left leg on this fledgling. The first indication that this was not an adult, was it lack of coordination and dexterity. It sure was fun to watch this Limpkin trying to keep his balance by throwing his wings up into the air. Cropped to vertical.

Hugh, that is a lovely sharp image and coveys the story about the lack of balance. I think I would crop out some of the bottom; what do you think?

Very cool find, Mr. Hugh :)
I love the fluffy baby feathers you mention and his fight for balance.

Hope to see you Sunday morning!

Probably not a bad idea, as it eliminates the dead space at the bottom. Thanks for the input and advice.

Light was a tad harsh to me, but I like the comp as originally presented, also pose and detail are very nice.
    Congratulations.

Hi Hugh, well captured image here, I just see a bit of blue fringing around the subject, which tells me the sky needs to go a bit darker and is most probably a bit washed out...

It works for me in terms of composition, and I like the original post. The sky is a bit bright to my taste. I am not sure if you were shooting in manual mode but I think that you did it to get as much details as possible in the blacks and that caused the brightness of the sky.

Super pose and happy with either comp as each has its merits. Agree sky is a tad bright which has caused some blue fringing.
