Rob, color look s a little dark, did you hand hold this? 1/40 seems like such slow shutter speed.
I recognize that aperture as wide open for your combination :)

I think you need another round of sharpening, probably due to the s/s.

If your techs are correct, and you used fill flash, then this should be a little brighter. This looks similar to our starling, so the blues that we can see look good. I feel the slow ss has let you down with such a long FL. Keep them coming.

Thanks for the information. Even though I have a D2XS and 69yrs old, I am still a beginner. The reason the BB didn't work - poor aiming. Didn't have the SB800 set at 50mm. This is the first time I tried to sharpen a jpg for the web - not enough. Shutter speed was set by the camera using aperture priority - last few picts I have shot - the shutter speed has been increased.

    Again, Thanks for the critiques.

    Rob,

In spite of the soft focus you captured some pretty good detail which I like. Is there an obstruction in the lower left? What is it?

I like pose and head angle and wish for a lower angle, it would be great to see a version with flash at the right setting and I might sharpen the bird more.

Everything has been said, nice species though, getting even lower might have helped improve the BG.
    Congratulations.

    THANKS ONE AND ALL!

P.S. Erich, not an obstruction - an old graveled walk way.

Did you do any cloning? Particularly to the right of the leg. Otherwise a little lighter and sharpen a bit more and you are on track Sir. :) Thanks for sharing.
