    Default White Capped Sparrow

Well my bluebird family grew up and flew away before I could get any pictures of the babies so I'll go back in time a couple months.

I made a perch by my feeder, used a tripod and shot during morning light. This sparrow was one of many birds that presented itself.

    Nikon D40
    Sigma APO 150-500mm
    1/400
    f/6.3
    ISO-800
    500mm
    Aperature Priority
    Exposure Comp - 0

PP - NR on background, sharpened the bird and I masked the white cap before raising exposure because it wanted to blow out. Now that I look at it I should have cloned the grass to the left out. Oh well.

Hope you enjoy it, thanks for looking, all comments welcome.

hi mark, your bird looks great. perfect exposure and some nice detail. may pick a little cleaner perch and put it in an area that has a nicer background. i think you are definitely on the right track!!

    Hi Mark,
I like the composition, image and capture...you have fine sharp details, good color rendition and a sharp eye...my suggestion would be to crop this into a pano, since the subject is centered in frame, this way it places all of the attention on him...looking forward to your next one...good show...

Hi Marl - Sharp eye!! Good pose - lots to like here. Agree on trying to get your bird out of the centre.
    Good show :)

    Hi Mark

Great idea on the perch !!! Would try to slim down some since you have control and line up with a smooth bg !!! The whites on the bird are right at the ragged edge, might back down one third exposure wise !!! Looking at the whites by the tail, middle of breast area and perch !!! Looking forward to your next one !!!

Looks bright on my monitor, too. Histogram also suggests clipping of highlight areas. Otherwise, a good image !

Hi Mark, definitely lots of good going on in this one. Just need to fine tune a bit per the excellent suggestions above. A tad less exposure will bring the highlights in line and reveal more detail. Would also suggest lightening the iris of the eye a bit. Good thinking on the perch and a nice capture! Looking forward to more!
