I captured this Midland Painted turtle shortly before it scooted ff the log into the water. Nikon D1X with a 80 - 400MM VR lens. Picture taken at 1/250 sec at F8.0 ISO 200

    Peter,

Nice composition and use of the reflection in this image. I would like to see more room on the left and right for his feet that are now clipped.

The image can use some noise reduction and is not sharp. Perform noise reduction at the beginning of your workflow and after you downsize the image for JPG posting, sharpen it. You may want to consider Artie's Digital Basics PDF (click on Field Store) button at top of page. It covers just about everything you need to jump start you workflows. That's how I did it.:)

A good comp here with a nce reflection. The bright spot on the log is a bit distraction. As Robert says a bit more room on the right. I agree with Roberts comments on sharpness etc.....

Painted turtles are a treat to photograph, they look as if they are hand painted. Early spring when they first come out, hit this same spot and I am sure you will see many. They are soaking in the sun and move very slow. You will have many photo ops!! I agree with the crop and softness as presented.
    Best,
    Howard
