    One of a pair of sand hill cranes that have nested in Whitewater, SE MN.
    50D, 400DO plus 1.4xII, 1/640, f5.6, iso 400, better beamer -1, but
    too far out to have much effect. some crop.

    Interesting habitat, we're used to seeing photos of them in golden fields or on short green grass rather than in lush vegetation! Lot's of rust colouration on this guy, pretty neat. If you have it I would add back a bit of canvas below as the feet are close to the edge, and I wish the head angle was better (looking towards us rather than away).

    They sure look different at the Bosque in the winter! A little snug at the bottom, and I'd like to see a better head angle. How do you like the combination of 400 DO and 1.4x?

    Doug, If I do my job correctly. The combination works great. Might be a little slower getting focus in lowlight and flying birds, but generally love it!

    Interesting. I'm not sure if I like the included habitat or not. I agree with Daniel on the head turn. I like the rusty coloration of the plumage on the back.

    I also like the inclusion of the habitat. The colors are pleasing to me. As mentioned the head angle is the biggest negative for me. Thanks for sharing.
