Taken in early morning mist, this little chap sat for a while in different poses whilst I tried different shots with and without fill in flash.

Lovely colors on the bird, nice BG and sharpness. Love the over the shoulder look. The perch seems a bit big for his small delicate feet and I'd take some room out of the left side.

Michael:
Nice head angle on this little guy. What a beak! I think he got in the 'beak' line twice, and missed the tail line, since his tail is so whimpy!
Lovely light, really helped keep the reds under control.
Brian's point about the perch is true, its a bit big for this guy in a perfect world, but its effect is lessened because it is darker, fairly muted in color, which also compliments the bird, and in the same plane almost as the image sensor.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Michael,
Lovely bird and smooth background. I would crop about half the void space top & left - give it a try...
Beautiful bird and a lovely image. Like the colors and the soft bg.
I would crop a bit from left and top and bottom. Suggestions here:

Excellent suggestions above. I like the species and light. I would warm the whole thing a bit. Congratulations.
Lovely image, but I'm surprised no one has mentioned the heavy magenta cast. Should be an easy fix using "Color balance" in PS. I agree about cropping above, and at left.

Very nice colors and sharpness. I too would have cropped it a bit.
Very nice indeed. I have seen some beautiful kingfishers in India...but this guy is mighty impressive. Love the angle of the beak. I'd have cropped such that the line of beak goes directly into the corner.
Thank you all for your very helpful comments, the image does look better with a tighter crop. I also had missed the magenta cast.
