    Default Ft Desoto

I've been reliably informed that this is a Willet, so if anyone knows different please tell me.

I had a great day ay Ft Desoto Beach back in March and i am already planning another bird photography shoot in Florida in 2011 with a few more days spent at Ft Desoto (1 day was not enough)

this was taken handheld with my D300, 500Vr lens and 1.4x TC with me laid on my stomach on the beach.
Shutter speed was 1/800 and the aperture was f6.7

I like the low angle Colin, and with a good pose too. I like the softer colours in this, and would maybe selectively sharpen the body a tad. Comp wise, maybe take a slice off the RHS.

thanks Stuart, i will take your comments on board.

i post these shots straight off my website rather than uploading them to this forum, which in hindsight is probably not the best thing to do, with respect to sharpening. All my images are on my site for sale and my Client's dont like the images sharpened at all which is why this one looks a little soft. If i was going to print this images i would definately sharpen the body of the bird a little bit.

thanks again Stuart, everyone's comments are always much appreciated

    best wishes

    colin.

    Colin:

Very effective DOF, sense of the surf without it overpowering the bird. Techs noted. I agree with Stuart re: slight crop adjustment, but very nice as is.

    Hi Colin,

I think that if you are going to take the time to present here, then you should take the time to make that image look good here. Wouldn't you agree? While I do understand your not sharpening images for your site, those are images for another purpose.

Nice image, an ever, so sight, boost in contrast & small amount of sharpening would improve this one much...

thanks Chris and point taken, your right of course about the sharpening. I dont agree about adding more contrast though

Super shot Colin. Love the low angle and soft colors too, and would selectively sharpen the body and crop as mentioned to give it some pop.

My thoughts here too. When presenting on the web (either here or on your site) you'll want your images looking as best they can for viewers and/or potential clients. Clients can always have unsharpened versions anyhow.

Beautiful image, I like the calm water combined with the OOF roaring wave in the BG. Beautiful colours too. I'm fine with the comp as is. You are right, one day at Desoto is not enough.

P.S. Just to confirm that yes, this is a Willet...:)
