Another image I made on Machias Island last week. In the BG is a boulder.

    Great one again,
You had quite harsh light and yet practically no shadow at all.
The whites are exposed perfectly, blacks have the detail,
The pose is even better on this one and the boulder adds
fine texture in the BG. I like the color of the BG, the off white
does not disrupt the overall B&W composition.
    Congrats!

The texture and color of the boulder made a wonderful backdrop for this sweet, little avian jester. Great pose, color and detail captured.

Very nice Axel, I'd love to see one of these.
I like the pose and the expression is indeed thoughtful, and head-strong.
I might shave a sliver off the left-hand side but otherwise it works for me.

    Axel:

Fine exposure, pose, sharpness. I really like the grey/silver in the beak and eyes.

    Cheers

I like the forward tilt of his head which lends itself to the title. Nicely exposed with fine detail throughout his head and neck. Nice complimentary background that accentuates the blacks.

Just like Ramon I wouldn't mind a catchlight, but man this is so sweet. A very human-like posture you managed to get from this fellow!

    Beautiful specimen.

Love the personality of this fellow and the careful crop. I wish I could see more details in the blacks on the chest.

Very nice Axel. I like the head angle and the crop on this image. I agree some catchlight would be nice, but I know the weather is quite cloudy up there. Thanks for posting.

Very good image Axel. The eye is just killer and I love the mood of this portrait. Exposure job is superb instead of the difficult light conditions and black&white plumage. I am glad to see that you had a great time with the sea birds

Clever title Axel, and this is top class. The detail, and colours in this, are simply superb. You have also nailed the exposure in this too. ( did you try dialing 0 EC and + EC to see the result) Great work.

Thanks, Stuart! I frequently changed the EC according to light angle and BG and tried to expose as far to the right as possible without overexposing.

    Axel,

Lovely. The white boulder in the BG works so well to emphasize the colors in the bird. I see several crops that would change the composition and make the head less centered, though this works well too.
