    This photo is from the morton arboretum outside of chicago. The birds seemed rather large to be ducks. Could they be immature canada geese? This is my first upload so please excuse any problems with image quality. Thanks

    Don- These look like juvenile Mallards but ducks often hybridize with farm ducks and can be quite large while still retaining the wild-type colouration.

    Hi Alek (?)- Welcome to BPN and thanks for your post. These are not Black Ducks for a variety of reasons. The bills are not the right colour (should be olive or greenish-yellow) and the head and bodies are too light. Blacks have a overall dark, rather uniform appearance, unlike these.
