I know now that I probably should have used a higher f/stop, but I didn't have a clue when I created this image a couple months ago at SAAF (my first time out in the field as a photographer). Anyway, I hope it puts a smile on your face as it does for me. Thanks for taking a look. ;)

I would've gone with even a lower f/stop actually, I like the comp here, is nice, warming it up a bit could help IMO.
    Congratulations!

I like the breeding colors, head-on look and plumage. I think the composition is interesting and the narrow DOF doesn't bother me at all.

Hi Amy: It's so great that you have finally picked up the camera and that you are posting your images as well. I think your apeture here was fine b/c you have the eyes and beak in focus. If the eyes had been out, that would have been another story. The dead on look, the hairdo and the colors are great! M

I agree - the narrow DOF actually makes this shot for me - gives it character. great job on the whites. top shot!

It works very nice for me, contrasted with the dark bg. I find the crop capturing and interesting, eyes are very sharp. I find the forehead feathers a bit hot, nice capture.

Thank you, all! I was concerned that I messed up and it's nice to see that this worked out well.

Art, I may be wrong but I reopened this up on PS and did not see any hot areas where you indicated. My monitor's brightness appears calibrated.
