I decided to go spotlighting tonight on my own out to a place called Mitchell Park. Great spot, lots of nocturnal mammals there. Third time out there at night in a month and still have not come up with ANY owls. :(

Caught this young brushie close to eye level.

    30D, 300mm f/4L IS USM, 1.4x, ISO400, f/8, 1/125th, HH, 430EX at zero with beamer. Cropped to square.

Yes, that thing is probably a mega tick near the right ear. I decided to leave it.

Really cute little guy. I never saw one before. I'm glad you left the tick-it seems very natural. Nice details throughout and I never tried spotlighting!!!

AF is a little slow. :D But works. It is an awesome experience. Summer is better, more critters about. Now it is SOOOO COLD at night, but I am mad as a hatter! LOL....

    Hi Akos!

You have really nice details on this one and IMO you handle the flash pretty well. That tick is a huge one and i guess this guy has had it for a while.

excellent portrait, I wouldn't have removed the tick either, it adds to the picture since it's part of nature's ways.

Great portrait of this little guy. I think the square crop works well, and I'm glad you left the tick there. It's prominent enough that there's no question what it is, and it adds to the "natural history" story here.

Thanks very much for the feedback. :)

Like your repost Peter. If I am correct, you only cropped a little off the left?

    Akos,
Good amount of details in the image. You have handled the spot well. I agree that the tick tells a story and should not be removed during pp. Image is sharp as well. Keep on trying. You will find your owls. :D

    Cheers,
    Sabyasachi
