a real close up of the inside of a passion flower. I toyed around with Nik Viveza to punch up certain colors in the flower as well as to dodge and burn background / foreground elements

then boosted the vibrancy with Nik Color effects pro 3.0 while adding cooling effect towards the blue end.

Thus only manipulation to the image was the colors.

Very interesting effect. I think what I like most is the vibrant color to this one.

This is a real flower??? Can see why it is called the passion flower. Can you post the original? I think the purple flower kind of balances it D. Just my opinion though. The colours are very wild.

Awesome colors Michael. For me placing the stamens just a little more to the left of the center would be ideal. WOW. Such great colors, didn't I already say that?

Jackie, they're real. The only difference between the original image and this post is really the color saturation. Here is a photo of a typical passion flower. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2336/...258f70fa_o.jpg They have them in different colors.

I looked up the origin of the name of the flower and this is what I found ...

The "Passion" in "passion flower" refers to the passion of Jesus Christ. In the 15th and 16th centuries, Spanish Christian missionaries adopted the unique physical structures of this plant, particularly the numbers of its various flower parts, as symbols of the last days of Jesus Christ and especially the Crucifixion:

The pointed tips of the leaves were taken to represent the Holy Lance.
The tendrils represent the whips used in the Flagellation of Christ.
The ten petals and sepals represent the ten faithful apostles (less St. Peter the denier and Judas Iscariot the betrayer).
The flower's radial filaments, which can number more than a hundred and vary from flower to flower, represent the Crown of Thorns.
The chalice-shaped ovary with its receptacle represents a hammer or the Holy Grail
The 3 stigmata represent the 3 nails and the 5 anthers below them the 5 wounds (four by the nails and one by the lance).
The blue and white colors of many species' flowers represent Heaven and Purity.

One amazing flower, didn't know about the biblical connotations. Thanks Michael.
