I'm camera- less at the moment so going through all the educational resources and the David Thomasson tutorials!
However, while going through the archives found a bug to join in with Gus and Harold!:) Just need to get my hands on a proper macro lens!!

Hi Jeni - not bad without a Macro :)

IMHO - the green leaf in the BG is quite distracting - maybe it could be toned down just a little.
Not sure about the crop - the eye of your bug is very centered within the frame - I would play around with trying to get it closer to one of the ROT points (Rule of thirds)
Some of the highlights are getting up there, maybe over a smidgen.

Looking forward to seeing more :)

great angle on this bug! very nice and sharp. I think its underside prob is more interesting to view than its back. the green leaf doesn't bother me as much as the bright area right behind it on the left.

Jeni - The diagonal line of the stem really works for me in this composition - very strong. I also find the green leaf distracting as is; interestingly I tried a tighter crop to move parts of the fellow into rule of thirds points and the leaf faded in importance. Perhaps it is because the leaf is a complete object coming forward from the bg.
    Cheers

I love the diagonal stem line too, you also capture the underwing detail which is good. Wish you had a more uniform background.

    Hi Jeni

Lots of good things here !!! The slightly lower angle is appealing, sharp and well exposed. Placement is good and not much choice I like it !! Placing the entire bug in front on leaf is good, having only a part would have been distracting !!

Lens wise remember you can use extension tubes and converters ... can do well with them !!!

    Hi Jeni,
I like the capture...your bug is sharp with very good color rendition...I too agree about the leaf in the background...looking forward to your next one...
