    Default Black-bellied Plover

sometimes you are at the right spot at the right time :)
It was my last day at the Texas Coast near Houston and I suddenly ran into that beautiful bird. I had seen him the days before, but never thought he would be approachable. As it was the last day and I didn't had anything else to shoot I decided to give it a try and left the car and tried to follow him.....well, after 10m he decided to jump up that stone and stayed there for 15 minutes :)

For me this is one of the most beautiful birds I've ever photographed. His plumage is so perfect !

Great exposure, BG, perch, pose, light, angle, detail, colors and sharpness. IMO a tad more room all arround wouldn't hurt.
    Congratulations!

Good BG nice pose and good exposure! Lovely contrast. Would suggest to add a bit more room all around if you have it and clone out the black and the brown thingy on the left of the birds feet. Otherwise a great shot!

Ditto more room around and some perch clean-up. Glad this guy gave you such an opportunity, and you took full advantage of it.

In all the years I have been shooting on the Texas coast, I have never seen one if full plumage like this. Just a stunning image.

does this brown thing really bother you guys? I thought it might adds to the stone, as it's rather grey and boring.

Jan, it doesn't help that we don't know what that object is - it just looks like bad debris. Same for the yellow stuff beside the feet. Besides, the plover is so beautiful - you could consider that IT adds to the "boring" grey stone :-)

    Hi Jan,
The blackish thing is the distraction IMHO; to my eye it competes a bit with the black on the beautiful plumage of the bird. The brown thing is not too bad and you could definitly consider leaving it in as an addition to the stone. Don't get me wrong: I think you made a beautiful shot of a gorgeous subject and I would be thrilled to have this in my files! All in all the criticism is suggestive and in most cases definitly not an absolute thing, if it were mine I would take the black thing out, but to somebody else it might add to the rock as you say..........

    Cheers,

    Krijn

Beautiful shot. Does need more room on top. Still a fine image with great detail. Have been trying for one of these for a long time now. Congrats on a stellar image.

It's totally fine, when you right stuff like this :)
When I have a long look at it, I start to find it distracting, too...it somehow draws the eye down...

I knew when I post it some would say to clone it out, but that's also why I post here, because you get a different perspective...

The only thing I don't really agree with is the room, as it looks really nice to me, but that's really a personal thing. One consideration here is that the stone is not that nice, so when you include more of it it gets quite dominant. That's why I chose a rather tight shot.
    It is full frame...

Nice image Jan. I might agree with the brown something :) Regarding the tightness I would not change it.
Like it as is. For my personal preference I would like to see the bg less dull.

I can only join the list: very nicely done image, good exposure, nice colors and a very nice bird. I agree with some more room for the crop. Congratulations.

Good-looking specimen, angle and BG. Adding to the other comments I might raise the color temperature a few degrees.

Very beautiful shot and plumage. I agree as above about the slightly tight comp.
