50D, 1/2000, f5.6, ISO 400, Tv. These buzzards give virtually no warning when they decide to land at the Giant's Castle hide. Next year I'm hoping for some better light and a glint in the eye with this pose.
Very nice capture and love the pose. Beautiful pattern of colors they have and you did great capturing that. Too bad about the light but nothing you could do. Also wished for a better head angle but he does have to know where he's landing. Congrats.

Thanks guys for the comments. Here's a repost with some of your comments taken into account. Sharpened a bit more, removed magenta cast and lightened the eye.
I think the repost is better. Great shot of this beautiful buzzard. Perfect wing pose. Head angle is ok for me here because this is the typical head angle for a landing buzzard. Otherwise they would crash into the rocks :-)
Love the repost Stephen. Just makes me want to go to Giant's Castle. No issues with HA as already mentioned, this is what they do when landing. Fine shot!
Awesome pose and almost perfect with the few minor details you already self critiqued on. I am sure with your opportunities and abilities you will get the one you really want next time. This is still superb! :)
STUNNING pose, great light, level of detail, colors BG and species, the two thing that I would've prefered different are that the OOF rock in the FG was not there and also, including the perch would've helped IMO.
Congratulations though on a great image!
Your comp works well Stephen, and love the landing posture, especially those extended legs and talons. You did well to show the full wingspread, and love the sharp detail from them too. Another fine GC image from you.
Good capture Stephen,
These guys always look down when they come in and the sun angle is always a problem, I am yet to see one with good light in the face, all of my shots have the same problem. We will have to hope for overcast conditions I think?
Thx everyone for the comments and suggestions. GC hide is fully booked throughout our winter as far as I understand, so no, we don't need stand in line:).
Superb image Stephen, Typical landing pose of a JB. not too much you can do about the head angle but definitely not a negative for me as the image is so powerful. As you mentioned these guys are extremely fast so very well captured image from my favorite place ;) Now if I can figure out how to upload some image of my own it would be great...(help) Ryan
