    Hi Daniel,

Big welcome to BPN, beautiful image with great colors. O wish you had moved to your right to avoid the Egret's head to merge into the reflection of the tree.
Whites look borderline, but not sure at this size.
It's a good iddea to include your camera settings, it helps evaluate better.

Looking forward to more. Try and take advantage of our size limits nex time :)

    Welcome!
Very nice first post. I like it a lot!
Clear and sharp, very nice bird, exposure.
The BG at first sight looks busy but then the texture and color of the
palm leaf works very well here. I'm not sure that I'd include both the reflection
of the bird and the leaf in the composition, perhaps you could try to crop
from the bottom and see if it works.
The only part that bothers me is the object right below the bird,
did you try to clone it away?
Good work, hope to see many more:)

You could post larger image and it is very useful
if you include the techs (see posting instructions above).

    Cheers,

    Thanks Ilija

Thanks very much for your comments.
If I post more work, you'll see I like reflections a lot.
Your right about the "water junk", piece of tree, below the bird. Never noticed it before.
I'm a "semipurist" and don't like to alter the image if possible. But cloning would make the image, "more perfect", but I
    don't take images for perfection.

I'll have to dig to find technicals. If you want a guess iso 400, f8 1/400.
I lost my password to flickr and can't upload new photos, so I'll try posting a few old ones and see if I like the site.
    Regards
    Dan

    Hi Fabs

Forgive me but that's an unusual name!

I shot a number of images as the Egret croosed in front of the Palm fron. Obviously some were before the head merged with the tree. I kinda liked this one best, although sometimes difficult to choose a single image. Much like choosing one of your kids over another.

Whites are always difficult. I stopped down -2/3 a stop of this to bring up the whites about the best that's I could. I shoot jpeg and not interested in raw, so I'll have to live with the results.

I really like the colors of this image, it's very pleasing to view. The reflection and the ripples really help enhance the image. A large version would be much better.

Fine with me, some people do some don't it is a matter of personal taste.
This way it is more work in the field rather than in front of computer,
one of the reasons many prefer not to do heavy PS work.

Hi Daniel, I like the colors of the palms, this is a beautiful setting for the egret. Perfection is in the eye of the beholder, but I would like to see a lower angle of view and not to have the fallen frond in the shot.

Beautiful comp and colours! As a matter of personal taste I would prefer a little bit more room at bottom for the reflection (not much needed, very subtle). That "tree" between the legs would definitely go if this were mine, but I respect your "semipurist" take on your photography. Seeing that you are not completely purist I'm thinking it would be OK with you to rotate the image clockwise a degree or two as it seems to be slanting down right to left :-)

    P.S. Welcome to BPN!!

Beautiful light and colors here Daniel. Did well with the whites. Agree with some of the suggestions and would love to see this larger. Another welcome.

    Hi Daniel:

Welcome to BPN. Your colors and reflection in this capture are stunning. Two things which would improve the image as it was taken would be to clone out the branch from between the bird's legs and to give the picture a little CW rotation. If you look at the water ripples, you will notice that they are not level.

    THank you for sharing. Marina

    Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I see I cannot reply just below each comment that is made unlike another photo site I visit. This explains trying to answer individuals yeaterday just below the comments.

I will have to find a way to upload some more photos to flickr and I lost my password. So I have to post the size of the few shots I have already posted there.

Going back through my files I considered another image in this series, about 2 frames before this one, as the best, but somehow this one got uploaded. The other frame had the egret about 2 feet before the piece of wood in the water. Less noticable, but could be cloned out and easier to do than between his legs.

    Thanks again all.
