Hi Art, this is an overall nice image of the GBH, but there are three main things that catch my eye here: The HA, which I would have preferred to be more towards us; the branch that runs up towards the neck feathers is distracting and could be removed if your PP ethics permit; and the sky colour which I'm finding too "cyan". Good exposure, sharpness, and colours on the heron itself.

Very nice exposure Art. HA not the best. I'd also get rid of the branch running parallel with the bird and maybe the one touching his tail. Overall a good image. Brian

Thanks Daniel, it's the first picture I have put up in a while because I can't find much other interesting subjects locally. I have quite a few in this session and will put up one with a better HA, I wanted to crop the branch but was afraid of what would happen with the feathers hanging over the limb, and as for the cyan, I'm colour blind but thanks very much for your help, I really appreciate it. Also, I seem to lose a lot of detail in resizing, is this normal? I usually go 800 on the longest side.

Hi Art, very nice looking photo. The head angle is a bit of a nuisance and the colour definitely looks off to me. The perch looks very typical for these birds so branches do not bother me. Nice and sharp, well done. Dave

The OOF brancho is distracting IMO, nice detail, light and species, maybe toning down the sky might also help.
    Congratulations.

You're welcome Art. You got the colours good on the heron itself, just the sky that looks off. Being colour blind how do you judge colour accuracy? Just being curious as i find this fascinating...

As for details, I don't see any lack of them here although at second glance critical focus seems to be on the feet/perch. Those are perfectly detailed where as the face is a little soft compared.

To Daniel, I'm not colour blind in all colours, mostly red and green but shades of colours can be troublesome, I try mostly from experience to match what it should be but can be off at times, I sometimes get my daughter to look at the finished shot to see if something is terribly wrong.
