out at loxahatchee this morning, mom and dad gave us a couple of fly bys. got lucky and caught one. almost full frame.

D300, Bigma at 420mm, f/6.3, 1/800s, +0.7EV, ISO 640.....i feel like i'm starting over from scratch. all the PP work is being done in ACR and CS3. sometimes i feel lost and sometimes it flows real well. gotta get used to it i guess.

thanks for looking. comments and critiques greatly appreciated.

A sweet image Doctor...I like the placement of your bird in frame...you have a good head angle with a sharp, crystal clear eye, good wing detail and love that baby blue sky...

Good pose and details ! Like the wing position but find the right wing kind of weird from this perspective...like it's missing some feathers :D

Why do they call you Doctor, Harold? You're a medical doctor?

    Hi Harold

Great angle. I would wonder about slightly tighter crop to bring out the detail more. I have a question. There appears to be a very slight blue flair around the feather tips ( maybe it is just my monitor). What causes that and how do you avoid it?:)

I like the pose, wing position and the sharp eye. Agree that the right wing (the one in back) look weird. Might try to bring out the black details in the tail if possible.

thanks for the comment, ray. i'd say that the blue flair you refer to is from a blur caused by the slower shutter speed. this is a tough bird to expose properly. it has dark and white feathers. in order to properly expose, you have to dial in positive EV. this normally slows the shutter speed and blows the whites unless you are in perfect light. i could have raised the ISO some more, but there would have been more noise to deal with in PP that i havent gotten figured out how to do yet. the D3 would not have the same problems. better high ISO capabilities.

desmond, you'll have to ask gus about the Dr. thing. i'm far from it. but i did stay at a holiday in express last nite!!!!!:D

Did well Harold As you mention this are tough birds to expose !!! I think this looks just fine since the angle minimizes the white by the tail !!! Looking forward to going !!!
